2006 Primetime Emmy Awards Opening Bit

I had to post this because it was so damn funny. I wish they did more television shows, but the ones they had were on point. Each bit from Lost to House looked like it was directed by its respective directors. Amazingly fun to watch. My favorite was The Office bit.

Prison Break Dot Code

In the season opener of Prision Break, a cryptic origami Swan was for Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) saying, "THERE'S A PLAN TO MAKE ALL OF THIS RIGHT." Followed by a sequence of dots. I assumed it was some morse code, but I ran across a site that had a way figure it out. Click on the picture for a larger image.

The code results to 9755766765 or (975)-576-6765. A phone number. A simple Google search for the area code of 975 and it is North Missori code. I have tried calling the number and nothing. At least it isnt a Hollywood 555-5555 number.

In the episode, Michael's (Wentworth Miller) credit card bill was looked at and one of the listings was a Voicemail service. hmm.. Now the question is.. Can Sara solve it... before its too late or Agent Alex Mahone (William Fichtner). We will have to watch and see...

At least these codes make sense.. unlike those clues on Lost.

Ne-Yo is Gay... FALSE!!!

I have recieved word that this story is false and that a Barbara Stradoff does not even work for Essence. I don't understand how someone would take time to craft a believable blurb, well believable to me. I should have figured it wasn't true when a Google search of this Barbara resulted in nothing. My first indication that it wasn't true is the fact that he has a kid. But then again.. Tom Cruise has a kid. I kid kid..

I guess when I posted the fake piece, it didn't help cool down the rumors.. One last time, I am sorry and this story isn't true unless otherwise proven in the future.

My 2006 Emmy Picks

Outstanding Drama Series

Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
House (FOX)
The Sopranos (HBO)
24 (FOX)
The West Wing (NBC)

Wow, this is one of the hardest categories to pick my favorite in. I watch all the shows besides The West Wing and I can kinda rule out The Sopranos. Yes it is the final season and all but the show has lost its steam compared to the first 5 seasons. Grey's Anatomy and 24 seem to be the favorites from what I read from other critics. I picked 24 because this season that passed was amazing and the drama was felt from each episode. Grey's Anatomy has its drama but its cloaked in comedy and 24 has been more consistent. And I think season 5's finale was more shocking than season 4's.

Outstanding Comedy Series

Arrested Development" (FOX)
Curb Your Enthusiasm" (HBO)
The Office" (NBC)
Scrubs" (NBC)
Two and a Half Men" (CBS)

Again, another trick category to pick a favorite. I watch every show besides Two and a Half Men. That show and Scrubs seem to be the surprise nominations. Arrested Development has been on thin ice since it debuted 3 years ago and as far as I know, FOX hasn't made plans to renew the series. I will rule out Scrubs as the winner. The show has it's core audience but sometimes some of the jokes seem in bad taste but I have had many laugh out loud moments.
The Office is an amazingly hilarious show. I cannot say how many times I have seen each season over and over. My pick is The Office because the humor is unique compared to the other nominees. However I do have a feeling Arrested Development might take it away or I could be very wrong.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Frances Conroy, "Six Feet Under" (HBO)
Geena Davis, "Commander In Chief" (ABC)
Mariska Hargitay, "Law & Order: SVU" (NBC)
Allison Janney, "The West Wing" (NBC)
Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer" (TNT)

I picked Mariska Hargitay because from the list, it is the only show I watch. But if I had to make a prediction based on what I hear, I would most likely choose Kyra Sedgwick.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Peter Krause, "Six Feet Under" (HBO)
Denis Leary, "Rescue Me" (FX)
Christopher Meloni, "Law & Order: SVU" (NBC)
Martin Sheen, "The West Wing" (CBS)
Kiefer Sutherland, "24" (FOX)

Hmm.. Toss up between Denis Leary and Kiefer Sutherland. Both awesome actors in their respective shows but Kiefer seem to be one-dimensional. I am not saying that's bad, the delivery and intensity is always on mark. However, Leary's ball busting, Irish whisky drinking, firefighting Tommy Gavin character is very cathartic.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

Stockard Channing, "Out of Practice" (CBS)
Jane Kaczmarek, "Malcolm in the Middle" (FOX)
Lisa Kudrow, "The Comeback" (HBO)
Debra Messing, "Will & Grace" (NBC)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (CBS)

Julia Louis-Dreyfus.. why? The only show I watched and it's funny... All I can really say..

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Steve Carell, "The Office" (NBC)

Larry David, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (HBO)
Kevin James, "The King of Queens" (CBS)
Tony Shalhoub, "Monk" (USA)
Charlie Sheen, "Two and a Half Men" (CBS)

Tony Shalhoub is nominated again and won last year. Charlie Sheen is the new comer and is banking on the fact that he is nominated and asking CBS for a million dollar per episode deal from what I recall. Steve Carell and Larry David are funny dudes on their shows.. Even though Shalhoub will most likely win again, I will be rooting for Carell. Off the bat you want to hate him for the stunts he pulls but when you give it time, you feel sad for his character. Go 40 year old virgin!!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

Candice Bergen, "Boston Legal" (ABC)

Blythe Danner, "Huff" (Showtime)
Sandra Oh, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC)
Jean Smart, "24" (FOX)
Chandra Wilson, "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC)

A top notch running for Supporting Actress here.. Danner won last year but her role seemed to be cut down in season two of Huff. Jean Smart was a little too whinny on 24 for me. I would like Oh or Wilson to win, especially Oh but Bergen will have to be my pick.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

Alan Alda, "The West Wing" (NBC)
Michael Imperioli, "The Sopranos" (HBO)
Gregory Itzin, "24" (FOX)
Oliver Platt, "Huff" (Showtime)
William Shatner, "Boston Legal" (ABC)

William Shatner.. No explanation needed. I think he won the last 2 years and deserves to win again for his character, Denny Crane.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Cheryl Hines, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" (HBO)
Megan Mullally, "Will & Grace" (NBC)
Elizabeth Perkins, "Weeds" (Showtime)
Jaime Pressly, "My Name Is Earl" (NBC)
Alfre Woodard, "Desperate Housewives" (ABC)

Don't know who to pick here.. I will just go with Alfre Woodard.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

Will Arnett, "Arrested Development" (FOX)
Bryan Cranston, "Malcolm in the Middle" (FOX)
Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men" (CBS)
Sean Hayes, "Will & Grace" (NBC)
Jeremy Piven, "Entourage" (HBO)

I REALLY want Jeremy Piven to win, but I think he has been nominated a few times already and haven't won. This goes to Will Arnett.

Outstanding Reality/Competition Program

"The Amazing Race" (CBS)
"American Idol" (FOX)
"Dancing with the Stars" (ABC)
"Project Runway" (Bravo)
"Survivor" (CBS)

I could careless about this category so I will pick last year's winner, The Amazing Race. However Dancing with the Stars was fun to watch, and a lot more fun to be there.

...and the Emmy goes to..

Listen to FutureSex/LoveSounds

Here is a treat for you Justin Timberlake fans.. The entire album available to take a listen to INCLUDING the bonus track "Pose" featuring Snoop Dogg. The following are my thoughts on the tracks and be sure to buy the album on September 12th. Best Buy is selling it for $9.99. You will be album to take a listen to the album on the right side under Plug it.

FutureSex/ LoveSound
- First thing I think of is Prince.. The beat, sexuality and Justin's voice screams "The Artist." Second I think of is JC Chasez.. Remember his song A.D.I.D.A.S (All Day I Dream About Sex)? This is the first song of the album and does set the tone and mood.

SexyBack

- The first single and the calling card of Justin Timberlake's comeback.. Well not a comeback but a return to the music scene after a hiatus of four years. Not a fan of the video because there is no dancing!!

Sexy Ladies

- Definitely a little Moris Day and the Time sounding. A little too slow for my taste but still a jammer

Let Me Talk to You - Prelude

- All I can say is that I feel like i should be in Rio de Jeniero awhile listening to this song. Dressed up in ruffles in bright colors in a parade behind steel drum players.

My Love

- The next single off FutureSex/LoveSounds.. I say one of my favorites off the album. I hope the video is better than SexyBack. Listen to the giggle and operaish sounds after the chorus. Does the opera sounding chick a violin or an actual chick. Listen for yourself

LoveStoned/I Think She Knows

- Another fav. It has my favorite lyrics off the album, She's freaky and she knows it/She's freaky and I like it/ Very very funky track and the hook reminds me of a Michael Jackson song. I say the best vocal performance on the album. The song slows down half way and sounds like a Coldplay song with Timberlake sounding a little like Chris Martin.

What Comes Around Goes Around

- The song opens up sounding like you would hear it in a Hookah bar but once the beat kicks in, it mellows out. Another downer song that would seem like it would be on the last album following, "Cry Me a River." Timberlake has already stated that its not about Britney Spears. I am going to say it here.. I do think it has some resonance to Britney. All and all a decent track but its not "Cry Me a River."

Chopped Me Up

- Three Six Mafia guest on this track and it feels like Justin should be the one guesting on it. The song seems really out of place. The best part of the track is Timberlake's hook.

Damn Girl

- An obvious Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas track. The down beat from the drum is a signature Black Eyed Peas sound. The chorus gives you that Al Green tingle.

Summer Love

- This track gives me the Bobby Brown sound especially the hook. One of the favs though but the production is a little over done...

Set the Mood

- A little 112ish and Ginuwine sounding...

Until the End of Time

- The song hasn't grown on me yet but I do like the stings.

Losing My Way

- A decent song.. on the MTV special, he said its about someone in a movie called Virgina Beach. I think.. A decent song to listen to.

Another Song, All Over Again

- A song that sounds like Brian McKnight or Musiq Soulchild would do.

Pose

- Guest vocals with Snoop and it is a half way decent song. The last few songs are disappointing with more than 75 percent of the CD hitting high notes.

All and all its a good album I don't think its better than Jusfied but it is worth a listen to. I predict LoveSound will be there third single off the album. The cd hits stores on September 12th with an extra bonus song for iTune Pre-Order. The FutureSex/LoveSounds World Tour kicks off in January in Los Angeles.

Justin Timberlake's Next Single... "My Love"

"My Love" featuring T.I. He talked about it on MTV, the song with the southern flavor with T.I. on the track. I believe this song is way better than SexyBack.Enjoy!!

San Diego Street Scene Day One

August 4th, 2006

San Diego Street Scene.. I missed out on the event last year and wanted to see what it is all about.. The drive down wasn't too bad since I wasn't the one driving. The parking wasn't a big deal either. When I entered into the festival area around the perimeter of the Qualcomm Stadium, Yellowcard was on stage and they are some pretty good performers. I say that's saying a lot since I was about 1000 feet away from the stage or more. It was far but the music was loud enough to hear. After checking them out a little and made my way to the other main stage to see who was on.

The hike to the other side was crazy far. The first stage from he Captain Morgan stage, where Yellowcard was performing, was the Inferno stage. Every so often blast of fire would shoot into the air. You could feel the heat from quite a distance from the stage. On that stage were random dancing chicks with hula hoops with black lights illuminating the
paint they had on them.

There was a Captain Morgan tent with people leaving it with pirate foam hats. I wanted to check it out but my driver was 21. Oh well.

The place didn't really look that crowded at all but then again I think this is the second year they had it at this larger venue.

Slightly Stoopid, which sounded like Sublime were at the other main stage. I checked them out a little and waited for Wu-Tang. As I went to the front of the pit area and waited for Wu-Tang to start. The stage was pretty damn high. I think it was about 7 feet up and kinda would be hard to shoot if someone on stage isn't at the edge. That sucked. I am not a fan of Wu-Tang, but I knew I was going to be leaving Rock the Bells early, so I figure to get my shots now.

After shooting the first couple songs, I went back to the Yellowcard stage to see AFI. The whole time I was at the Wu-Tang Clan stage, it stated that AFI was getting on at at 10:46. That time was 30 minutes early and kinda ran into the Kanye West set time.

The photographers in the pit were getting warned that if the crowd got crazy, that the guards would kick us out. Well let’s hope that doesn’t happen but that the power of the AFI fans. The show started with “Prelude 1221.” Davey Havok came out in all white looking dolled up with fake lashes, pink eye shadow and lots of make up. I knew once I heard the first song I want to see them in an unstressed situation. It’s really hard to enjoy anything when you are worried about getting a shot.

I ran off to the Kanye West stage since he was getting on at 10:45. He had the orchestra set up with I think maybe 7 violinist? I couldn’t see everyone. I was excited to see him but I was whatever’s after he came out. I really wanted to get back to AFI. I hung around a little bit to listen to his songs and left. Listened to AFI a little bit more and left there. I didn’t to deal with people leaving and I had to get back to Rancho for something. Made it back in good time. I missed Snoop Dogg, and few other people on Saturday but I will be stuck at Rock the Bells all day.

Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

Interscope BET Awards Afterparty

June 27th, 2006

Bottomline.. It was at Club 750 or something. It used to be a rave club a few years back called Orion. Place was packed and when I got there, the place was overcapacity and they were not letting other people in. Why we were late? 2 chicks getting ready.. Wow… Seriously.. Waited around for one and a half hours and that was that. So if anyone knows how it was, fill in buddy in. I was told Pharrell was performing or something. I don’t know.. Oh well. Learned my lesson..

Oh had another interesting texting conversation. And if you read the Opening Night post you know who and why.. Yeah.. sucks..

BET Awards Media Day

June 26th, 2006

Nothing much to say really... Arrived at the Shrine Auditorium around 10ish, and checked in, got my picture taken and my badge. I waited for the media room door to open and after standing around for 30 minutes in the dry heat, the door opens. Went in and got my stuff checked and walked through the metal detectors, don’t want a Vibe awards incident again.

I had to double check if I had access to the red carpet tomorrow at actual event but no one knew who I had to talk to. After explaining my story to about 4 people, I was in contact with someone who was in charge of everything but she couldn’t help me. Basically said we will see what happens later or tomorrow.

Sat in the media room for I think nearly two hours and no one even came out to do interviews or to give some photo opts. Looking at the schedule, the only people I would want to do anything with were Ne-yo and Rihanna. I talked it up with some of the other reporters and photographers, but other than that it was just a waiting game. I ended up leaving, and that’s that. Maybe it will be different tomorrow.. Maybe..

I should have stayed but class was calling

Electric Daisy Carnival 2006

June 24th, 2006

I went two years ago and wow it sucked. The venue is kinda dirty and you spend half of your time playing how many water bottles can you kick walking 10 feet. I say about 20 was for me. Yes, its that bad.

I had some trouble receiving my tickets and the power crazed ticket lady didn’t help. Once I received my tickets after midnight, went on into the venue and wow. I visited Sean’s booth, selling his water and it looked nonstop.

Walked around all over the place and the airport hanger with the Drum and Bass was way way too loud.

I checked out the Trance room and saw Christopher Lawrence. He was pretty tight but it’s hard to enjoy the music when you have a 5 pound camera with you. Shot him and waited for Ferry Corsten. He was the last one to DJ for the night until 4am. Fun fun. Shot him and hung around a little bit and left.

Raves!! HURRAY!!
